Low testosterone

Can medications affect testosterone levels?

Yes. Some medicines, including opioids and glucocorticoids, can lower testosterone. Bring a list of everything you take so your clinician can consider it.

Guidelines note that certain medications and recent illness can temporarily suppress testosterone, which is one reason testing is interpreted in context.

Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own; talk with the prescribing clinician about options.

Risks and limitations

  • Medication effects differ by drug and dose, so a review should be individualized.
